PADI IDC Thailand The PADI 5 Star Career Development Center (CDC) is a PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Center (IDC) that meets all PADI 5 Star IDC requirements and has dedicated its business to professional development training beyond introductory instructor development courses.

The PADI CDC award recognizes progressive and professional 5 Star IDCs who have committed resources to dive industry career training.

There are more than 40 Instructor Development Centers (IDCs) in Thailand, but only 3 (three) have been awarded the prestigious Career Development Center (CDC) rating. Dive Asia is the only CDC on Phuket and the west coast of Thailand.

Special IE option for CDCs

Candidates enrolled in five pre-and/or post-IDC courses (Pre-study, EFRI, Specialties etc.) OR candidates of a six-week career development program who successfully complete a PADI IDC, conducted by the CDC, may attend a PADI IE if they have been certified divers for at least six months, have logged 60 dives and are certified PADI Assistant Instructors (the AI course is now an integrated part of the IDC).

CDC candidates who successfully complete an IE and subsequently meet the 100-logged-dive certification requirement will be certified as PADI Instructors when their paperwork has been processed by PADI.

Because of the services offered, PADI 5 Star CDCs are places where candidates receive training to prepare them for successful careers in the dive industry.

PADI IDC candidates benefit from the PADI 5 Star CDC’s commitment to professional development and excellence.

Beyond those benefits they already have as PADI 5 Star IDCs, PADI 5 Star CDCs benefit from PADI’s Instructor Development marketing and promotional efforts that place institutional advertisements in dive publications and position the CDCs’ quality and prestige.

They also may offer graduates of their six week career development program special credentials and recognition materials.

PADI 5 Star CDCs offer career-oriented training to prepare dive professionals for employment in the dive industry as well as offering job placement assistance for program graduates.

Prerequisites and Requirements

To qualify for and maintain the PADI 5 Star Career Development Center status, a PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Center must:

1. Have been a renewed PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Center for at least two years and have no verified PADI Quality Assurance violations within the previous 12 months and no open quality assurance inquiries in progress.

2. To apply, have trained a minimum of 60 PADI Instructor candidates (those who have completed an IDC or OWSI Program.)

3. Have on staff two renewed, Teaching status PADI Course Directors (one must be employed full-time) to conduct and/or coordinate all PADI Instructor Development Courses, Instructor Orientation Courses and other PADI Instructor-level training.

4. Continue to meet all PADI Dive Center, 5 Star Dive Center and 5 Star Instructor Development Center requirements.

5. Display PADI educational products and PADI course offerings in the facility, totaling an area not less than 4 square metres/30 square feet.

6. Have offered and conducted (and continue to offer and conduct) a complete career development curriculum that is at least six weeks long and includes, but is not limited to:

a. PADI courses – Rescue Diver, Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, IDC, and Specialty Instructor training.
b. Pre- and/or post-IDC instructor-level courses equivalent to at least 20 training days. These courses must include skills and knowledge relevant to retail dive store and/or dive resort employment.

7. Provide each CDC candidate with a personal set of PADI materials specific to the courses the candidate participates in.

8. Issue at least 60 instructor level certifications annually, 15 of which must be IDC/OWSI Program certificates of completion. Programs that qualify for instructor level certifications include, but are not limited to, Assistant Instructor, EFR Instructor, PADI Specialty Instructor and instructor-level career development programs.

9. Have a course catalog outlining the six week career development curriculum offered.

10. Have in place and offer to candidates a full-time graduate placement assistance service.
